Avoid Taking Things Personally

1_VQg6b_T6zGij-MGcS23KYQ

Avoid taking things personally. When people are rude to you, it is usually how they relate to themselves rather than a reflection of you. If they have a poor relationship with themselves, it will show up in how they treat others and, in this case, rather you.

As such we must avoid taking things personally as much as possible. In fact, it is almost never about you and therefore you should avoid taking things on a personal basis. We are brought up to take things personally, as a sign of strong character. This may be difficult to overcome. Another factor is that we do not want to be perceived as weak, and as such we take things personally to protect our sense of identity.

When you do so, you will be able to observe your emotions rather than acting them out. You will be less reactive and more proactive. You will react less emotionally and respond more rationally. This is where our power lies, in interacting with others. This is, in essence, being mindful of our behaviour.
